We’re excited to launch our first project in July 2016. ‘Birmingham Women: Past & Present Revisited’ has been made possible by support from an Our Heritage grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project focuses on a sponsored walk produced by the editors of the Feminist Review journal in the 1980s called ‘Birmingham Women: Past & Present’. By updating this walk, we will explore the extent to which women’s activism of the past has been an enabling factor in women’s opportunities today. By involving local schools, volunteers, and community partners we aim to encourage inter-generational discussions based around women’s histories. It will also provide opportunities for those involved to learn interviewing and research skills, thereby encouraging women to feel confident in interpreting the past and to potentially start their own projects.
Our first event will involve walking part of the original walk. There will be plenty of other opportunities to get involved, with plans for talks, training and workshops. Follow us on Twitter or check back here for news on future events and opportunities to get involved in our project. We look forward to working on this with you!
